Carter Braxton, signer of the Declaration of Independence, lived at West Point 1777-1786 after fire destroyed his plantation Chericoke, upriver on the Pamunkey. The town house no longer stands. From West Point Braxton channeled war goods to Patriot troops.

Physical Description of Location: West Point, VA 23181. Located on 14th Street (Rt. 33), less than 1/5 of a mile west of the junction of 14th Street (Rt. 33) and King William Road (Rt. 30). Marker is on the left when traveling west on 14th Street (Rt. 33).
